Deed theft through fraud is frequent enough that, on November 14, 2023, New York State enacted a new law specifically designed to protect homeowners from it. But ironically, fear of fraud sometimes makes people more vulnerable to scams.
Transferring title to real estate, trusts, LLCs, or family relatives triggers various mail notices, including from the IRS regarding tax filing obligations, and/or the city register or country clerk notifying of the title being recorded.
