VMM Statement on the Rally for the Rule of Law

Dear friends,

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, a number of bar associations are participating in a “Rally for the Rule of Law” at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan, in front of the New York State Supreme Court Building.

The New York City Bar Association, New York County Lawyers Association, New York Council of Defense Lawyers, and many other New York bar associations are gathering to demonstrate their support for the rule of law and speak out against attacks on the integrity and independence of judges, punishment of law firms and lawyers merely for representing their clients, the firing of government lawyers simply for doing their jobs, and many other attacks that threaten to destroy our constitutional democracy.

Lawyers attending will then reaffirm the oaths they took to support the United States Constitution.

As members of the Bar, the VMM team believe it is our obligation to show our unequivocal support for an independent judiciary, for the right of attorneys to represent clients of their choice, and for the Sixth Amendment right of all Americans to legal representation.

This is by no means a political statement. Our team proudly includes members from across the political spectrum. It is a moral statement, centered on our belief in American values.

The rally is open to lawyers and non-lawyers alike. We hope that you join us in support of our legal system and constitutional democracy, in person or in spirit.

Thank you,
